Viterbo
The province of Viterbo has a surface of 3.612 Sq Km, with 60 municipalities and a total of 293.798 inhabitants. The landscape, characterized by hilly lands cultivated with grapevines and olive groves, starts from the Cimini, the Volsini and the Sabatini mounts to the Maremma coast.
The volcanic origin of the province of Viterbo is revealed by the morphology of the Lake of Bolsena, the Lake of Vico and by the sulphurous springs.
Reddish tuff and peperino stones form a nice contrast which characterizes the whole landscape, the walls, the buildings and even the chief town Viterbo.
Other suggestive attractions in the Province of Viterbo are the two lakes of Bolsena and Vico, amongst the biggest lakes of the Apennines. Both of them are inside of two huge volcanic craters.

The villages which overlook the Lake of Bolsena are very charming as well and they are Marta, Bolsena, Montefiascone and Capodimonte.
The village of Ronciglione, near the Lake of Vico, is very picturesque. However, it is important to stress that the whole area has got a high naturalistic value, this is the reason why it is a Nature Reserve.
In the province of Viterbo there are many rivers: the Fiora, which flows from Tuscany (in the province of Siena) into the Tyrrhenian sea (near Tarquinia); the Mignone from Vejano into the Tyrrhenian sea (near Civitavecchia).
The Tiber is the main river which flows in the province of Viterbo and in ancient times it represented the border between the Italic territory and the Etrurian region.
